JUNYI SUN

Junyi Sun (València 1987), dancer and choreographer with the Kernel Dance Theater company, worked on his first piece, Am I Bruce Lee, at La Piconera as its first resident artist.

“Did you know that Bruce Lee was a cha-cha-cha champion?” This is how Junyi Sun begins his description of his first solo project, which grew out of his curiosity about the phenomenon represented by this popular figure in the 1970s. “Bruce Lee was a man of small stature who practised a style of martial arts that was not widely known around the world at the time. How can such a ‘small’ man, through something as ‘small’ as punches and kicks, become such a widespread consumer product?”

For many, Bruce Lee is a fully fledged superhero. The points of connection and parallels between the artists (origin, professional path, personal process...) and Sun's search (and that of all of us) for ideals, goals, desires... or superheroes will define his work.
